What is Dyneema®? A tough, durable, and extremely versatile polyethylene fiber that pulls well above its weight class. The unique properties of Dyneema® offer limitless potential applications in the apparel industry.
Developed by DSM in 1963, Dyneema® is a fiber made from so called Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene or UHMW-PE.
Extraordinarily strong due to a patented gel spinning process. During this process the fibers are drawn, heated, elongated, and cooled. Stretching and spinning the fiber leads to molecular alignment, high crystallinity and low density.
Result: A lightweight, high-performance fiber with game changing properties
Dyneema® is 15 times stronger than steel: A rope with Dyneema® can withstand forces, 15 times stronger than that of a steel cable of the same weight.
Dyneema® enhanced fabric will endure under even the most challenging of conditions. Tear resistance: 5 times higher compared to Denim with HT-Nylon using half the amount of synthetic yarn.
Adding only 5-10% Dyneema® material to a denim results in:
...while maintaining the classic denim look, touch, and feel.
